Hear first-hand what Montgomery Women’s scholarship recipients say about their lives and experiences at Montgomery College.
From a recent recipient, a licensed practical nurse who is balancing her studies with the care of her two daughters, and successfully maintaining a 3.5 GPA:
“I am planning to graduate… and transfer to the University of MD or Towson to complete my BS degree in nursing…. The Montgomery Women Scholarship lightened my financial burden… and gave me more time to study. I feel very honored and highly appreciate your generosity and support toward my higher education. You have inspired me to give back to the community and I hope one day I will be able to support other students the same way you supported me. Thank you so much.”
This recipient is a member of the Germantown Student Senate and plans to become a high school math teacher:
“[My parents] have worked laboriously to make sure that all their children lived a good life. My dad often worked late nights and weekends, and my mom worked multiple jobs to make a living…. I did not want to cause a financial burden because college can be debt-producing. This scholarship will continue to fund my education and ensure that I focus on learning and enjoying classes at MC, such as Introduction to Special Education and Educational Psychology.”
This second and final year student is a business major with a 3.86 GPA. She is active on campus, holding a number of officer roles in student organizations:
“I have loved the professors, the people, as well as the environment of the Germantown campus…. I am incredibly grateful about all I have learned and benefitted from Montgomery College, which I couldn’t continue to do without this scholarship…. I honestly couldn’t have ever dreamed of these opportunities before, and with this scholarship it ensures that I can continue to do well in and outside of the classroom.”
A sophomore explains why she chose her major:
“When I was in high school, I took a particular interest in American Sign Language and decided to sign up for the classes offered at school. While in class I noticed how a deaf classmate struggled to communicate as others never took the time to either sign or try to speak to her. Watching her struggle made me want to study Sign Language after high school, and so I chose Montgomery College…. During my two years here at Montgomery College. . . I became the founder and president of the ASL club, a member of the renaissance scholars program and Phi Theta Kappa.”
